Individual Achievement Award

December 2007

The Individual Achievement Award is open to anyone, irrespective of where they are employed in the organisation, who have succeeded in their work or career in difficult circumstances.

Or it is for those who have succeeded in an individual challenge that is out of the ordinary or gone beyond the call of duty

The winner of the Individual Achievement Award goes to Eileen Kenworthy of Alliance & Leicester, who retired in August after 12 years as secretary to the Group Secretary. Her enthusiasm and commitment to Alliance & Leicester's volunteering activities has been a major factor in making them so successful. Her colleagues paid tribute by saying she has always been an extremely dedicated volunteer and an inspiration to others.

Eileen volunteered to take on the role of Right to Read co-ordinator for Alliance & Leicester when it launched in Leicestershire in 2002 and has encouraged more than 100 Leicester-based staff to volunteer to help children with their reading in 13 schools. She is also co-ordinator of the Number Partners scheme in Leicester and has recruited over 20 volunteers in four schools, since launch in 2006.

Along with a team of colleagues, she has decorated the dining halls at two schools and is a Leicestershire Cares Team Leader. She has also organised the Collect-4-Christmas campaign for seven years raising around £35,000, and is one of the main organisers of Alliance & Leicester's Annual Charity Fun Day.

Eileen's community work has been recognised in the past. She won the Business in the Community Volunteer of the Year award in 2004 and Leicestershire Education Business Company Right to Read co-ordinator of the Year in 2003.
