It is too early to be sure if the government's home information packs (Hips) scheme is a success, mortgage broker London & Country has suggested
A spokesperson for the firm said: "At the moment the jury is still very much out on Hips. Only time will tell."
She emphasised that the energy rating part of the packs - the energy performance certificate - was going to become a requirement for homeowners, so having it as part of the Hips package was "not too horrendous value".
In addition to this, she said, when the situation was equal for everybody because all homes needed a HIP, the information contained in the packs might receive more attention from buyers.
So far, only homes with three bedrooms or more have to have a HIP.
Research published earlier this month by London & Country showed that 62 per cent of people questioned believed HIPs would make no difference to the speed at which properties would sell.
