Job losses at UK banks

HSBC is to cut 1,100 jobs in its global banking and market division, 500 of those will be in the UK, mainly at the bank's Canary Wharf headquarters.

The job losses are in response to the current market conditions and economic environment and its "cautious" outlook for 2009.

Yesterday, Bradford & Bingley announced it is to axe 370 jobs, including 300 at its mortgage processing centre in Borehamwood, which will close. There will also be a “significant reduction” in intermediary sales team and redundancy of all remaining branch-based mortgage advisors.
